I wrote this up on tumblr a couple of days ago and thought you all might be interested in seeing it too. This is basically just some little paragraphs about the characters and some speculations for the season and the gap

Firstly - I think it’s pretty sad that I actually have to go back and watch the ep again to work out how many new characters there were -_-

Okay so the last assigned number I heard when they left the gave was Beetles at B22 - That is a LOT of people who have gone through the team, especially considering that the last number before the skip was Artemis’ at B07 (not counting Zee and Rocket, but it was never confirmed that they were given new numbers). How many people have gone through the team?

First up - the new characters

Robin/Tim Drake: I really like the idea of Tim being this quiet and awkward teen who’s trying to live up to Dick’s legacy. He’s definitely different to Dick, and it seems like he doesn’t have the keen-ness to lead as Dick had (before Failsafe of course). I’m guessing he’s about 15.

Barbara/Batgirl: What? Noooo, I didn’t squeal when I saw Babs - not at all. We haven’t seen much of her so far, but we better see more. Also I really love the way Alyson Stoner does Babs older voice. She was 13 before the skip - so she’ll be 18 (or 19 if she has a birthday between Sept and Jan)

La’gann/Lagoon Boy: I’m really not sure how I feel about L-Boy, and that’s not just because he’s with Megs. He seems like someone who wants to be and do more than he can handle, and I think he’s the newest addition to the team. As Atlanteans go - I prefer our former one. He was said to be 12 in Downtime - so he’d be 17 now.

Jaime/Blue Beetle: I’m probably biased, because I ADORE Jaime; he’s one of my favorite DC characters. I really like him in this, discovering new things about his scarab everyday, and it’s really fun to see him have these out loud conversations with, seemingly to everyone else, himself. Age guess - 15 or 16

Gar/Beast Boy: I knew that they were going to go this way from Image - and I like it. But I really hope we get to see his transition and his mother’s reaction to it and how he came on the team (damn timeskip!). I also want to see some interaction between him and his “blood-sister”, Mg’ann (oh, and from the look he was giving Superboy after La’gann and M’gann - their names are going to be annoying to type - I’d say he thinks Conner should be with Megs). I also love that he’s keeping up Wally’s habit of collecting souvenirs. He's 13 now.

Mal: I like the idea of having a member who operates from the cave and keeps everything organised. I also adore his love for Karen already (except for the fact that she had to raincheck him - she’s a busy bee, that one - HA), and I want to know how the two of them found out about the Team. He’d be 20 or 21

Karen/Bumblebee: I like how she’s trying to balance the Team and her work in the science lab (looks like she’s going to be our new science-brain on the Team) and being the protege to the Atom. I'd like to know where her powers came from and how she found out about the Team. It was said that she was 15 before the skip, so she’d be about 20 or 21 now.

Cassie/Wonder Girl: I’m not going to dwell much on Cassie, because I’m biased against her unfortunately (although I am feeling like I'm going to enjoy this incarnation of her more than her other ones) - but I think she’s about 14 or 15, and it seems like she’s fairly inexperienced and quite hot-headed and proud (kinda like how Conner was at the beginning of season one).

And the old…  

It’s seems most of the Team and League are now all on first name basis’ with each other, and I like that.

Also I find it very interesting that Zatanna (BOOBS!) and Rocket, who both haven’t had as much time on the Team, made the transition to the League quite simply - yet Dick, M’gann and Conner refuse to join the League. I like how they all feel they need to stay - whether it’s because they want to mentor the younger kids, or they feel so strongly connected to the team, or (and I’m crossing my fingers it isn’t true) they’re trying to keep the memory or ex-Teammates who have fallen.

Dick/Nightwing: GUYS I’M NOT A PEDOPHILE ANYMORE. HE’S MY AGE. Hehe, I love Dick, though I wish we got to see him overcome his nigling insecurities of leading the Team. He hasn’t changed much personality-wise - and I love that. However, he did say a few things that hinted towards the idea that someone (whether it be a member of the Team or Jason or someone else) has died before and he’s trying to operate the Team so the new kids don’t get hurt or killed - eg/ “No unnecessary risks to the squad”? Did Dick do that once and get one of his friends killed?

M’gann/Miss Martian and Conner/Superboy: Oh god - WHAT HAPPENED? I’ll admit, I had always been on the fence about their relationship - but by half way through the first season, I was sold on it. Honestly, they had always seemed like to me like the couple that would never break up, but look - here we are - and I really want to know what happened, because Conner still loves her, I can tell. My headcanon for why they broke up is that it had something to do with a tragedy that may have befallen the Team - M'gann could have been grieving and Conner wants to try and comfort her but doesn't know how (and the fact that he also would have been grieving in his own way) and I think they might have just drifted apart - and maybe when La'gann came along, he was nice and comforting to M'gann and she latched onto him.

And the ones we didn’t see

Kaldur: I really actually believe that Kaldur may have taken up Black Manta. It’ll be a funny idea, because you’d think he’d be the least corruptible  - and that’s why I like that idea. If he does turn out to be Black Manta, I want to know how and why that happened (ergo - FLASHBACKS). I believe that it may be an undercover thing he's doing to try and get information on the Light - but he never told the rest of the Team and they believe he actually went evil.

Wally: You guys probably already know that I think Wally may be the Flash - but another idea I have is based off something that happened in the comics, where Wally had to quit being KF for a while because his powers began to mess up as his body grew and caused him a lot of pain when he used them. So maybe that’s it. Another idea that I've been entertaining as A Wally/Artemis shipper is that he and Artemis are also working for the Team, but in a lot more freelance way in which they're moving all around the world and reporting alien activity to Dick if they find some.

Artemis: I have a lot of ideas where Artemis may be -  and honestly, I kinda don’t want to think about it some of them, because her arc was pretty much finished at the end of the first season, so it would be easy to kill her off. In saying that though, I find it hard to imagine after a whole season of developing and going through ups and downs in her and Wally’s growing relationship, that they would just smack all that down by announcing her dead in the episode after they’ve finally get together. I have the above idea that she and Wally are off somewhere together, and idea that maybe she died or quit - and another idea (which is my main idea) that maybe she became another Green Arrow, one more based in Start City while Ollie is off doing work for the League and that maybe she's training Cissie King-Jones (Arrowette) as her protege (and doesn't want her joining the Team quite yet).

As for the Wally/Artemis relationship - providing neither of them are dead, I'd say these two have quite a strong chance from my perspective. ONE - a large part of the season was dedicated to developing them to fall into a relationship, and if I was a writer, I would DEFINITELY not throw that all away. TWO - out of the end of season hookups, you'd think that they'd keep at least one of those relationships going, right? Kaldur/Rocket never seemed like it was going to get too serious, and the absence of Kaldur kind of shoots that down anyway, and Robin/Zee seemed like it was going to be in a same boat (plus with Babs as Batgirl now, I think they want to try the ever-so-popular Dick/Babs). Conner and M'gann were broken up, so the only couple that could still be going IS Wally/Artemis - and like I said, they have to keep at least ONE of those relationships going, right?

Anyway, those are my thoughts. I’m sure we’ll receive all answers in due time, and I’m definitely still going to watch the show.
